Inspection of your installation: what does the inspector check?

An electrical installation must be inspected at several moments by an approved inspection body (AREI Book 1, Part 6 — Inspections). The inspection protects you and future occupants against hidden defects.

When is an inspection required?

What does the inspector need?

  • A correct and up-to-date single-line diagram of the installation.

  • A position diagram showing the board, circuits and appliances.

  • Free access to the distribution board and installation.

Common infringements

  • Missing or outdated single-line or position diagram.

  • Insufficient or missing 30 mA RCD protection on wet circuits.

  • Poor earthing or equipotential bonding.

  • Lighting and sockets on the same circuit.
